AI Doomsday, Nvidia’s GPU Debacle, and Xbox’s Vaporware AI

Hey there! Some links on this page are affiliate links which means that, if you choose to make a purchase, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. I greatly appreciate your support!

Nvidia Fuzzy GPU Sales Data

Nvidia has been informed that buying its latest graphics cards has been a nightmare. However, Team Green is perplexed because Nvidia reports that it has doubled the number shipped during the first six weeks of the RTX 30 Series as opposed to the availability of the RTX 30 Series. Sounds great, right? Little known fact before we get to AI Doomsday: the RTX 30 Series had a single card, the 3080, but the RTX 40 Series had the availability of the 4090, the 4080, and the 4070 Ti. Doubling the sales, therefore, sounds worse.

AMD Refuses to Get Faint-Hearted, F

In the meantime, AMD goes into damage control mode. VP David McAfee reported that demand for the RX 7800 XT has been “unprecedented,” restocking at MSRP is the highest priority for AMD. At least he didn’t give fake numbers like Nvidia did—the technical giant version of putting lipstick on a pig. Just don’t look too closely.

AI Doomsday – Windows identifies WinRing0 as Malware.

Windows has branded WinRing0, a utility, as malware. Spooky. WinRing0, on the other hand, is a kernel-mode utility used in monitoring software, giving complete control to Windows. Convenient but dangerous—it has been abused in the past. Microsoft closes the loophole, forcing the authors to find an alternate solution or pay to sign the fix. The catch? The fix has a hefty price tag, and enthusiasts support most programs. Some, such as SignalRGB, have already fixed their programs but aren’t sharing patches. In the meantime, iBuyPower is stepping up, saying they will pay to sign the fix and make it available—an uncommon noble act.

Xbox Reveals Copilot for Gaming

Xbox announced “Copilot for Gaming,” an AI assistant that downloads games, invites friends, and recommends games to play. And it might even throw in some snark: “Get good!” If that’s the attitude you’re in the mood for, you might consider trying Nvidia’s ACE-powered assistant in Black Vultures: Prey of Greed. This AI tells you to “Move in! Hold!” two seconds too late. And it’s even less: it’s a concept, too. So’s Copilot, as it appears. Microsoft’s blog post says it’s “built on three principles” but adds, “These videos are concepts only.” Is it or isn’t it?

Apple Explains Why Siri AI Update Is Yet to Be Released

Speaking of vaporware, Apple added disclaimers to its site last week stating that its AI-infused Siri redesign, which was viewed in June, isn’t yet available. You may not preview something until you make it.

Ahrefs has released patches for SEO tools. In contrast to those AI assistant programs, Ahrefs isn’t imitation. Their integrated SEO utility optimizes sites and draws in more search visitors. They even added “Patches” that enable site metadata editing and broken link fixing directly within reports—not clunky ticketing systems or Slack grenades. With training provided, they even offer keyword research, link building, and more. Get your SEO better using the link below.

Snack Bites – AI Doomsday?

Intel has a new leader: board member Lip-Bu Tan. Tan has taken over from Pat Gelsinger, who abruptly resigned amid “differences” with the board in August. Insiders said Tan had envisioned a more customer-focused, less bureaucratic Intel. The board had other plans. Good beginning, Mr. Tan.

Finally, Google has fixed Chromecast’s expired certificate issue, which has left second-gen Chromecast and Chromecast Audio owners high and dry for the past week. The fix comes as part of a new Android update, which, as expected, has its own set of issues.

The GSM Association announced new RCS specs, including the addition of supporting end-to-end encryption. Apple hadn’t been using Google encryption, but with the news today, Apple says that it will be encrypting RCS messages with an upcoming update. But will it be exclusive to the new iPhone Ultra rumored about? Most likely

Google is phasing out “Google Assistant” for “Gemini” later this year. It’s even enhancing the base version of Gemini, such as in-depth analysis and leveraging search history to provide context better. Invasive? Perhaps. At least Gemini has a name, though. “Assistant” never did.

Coding AI Doomsday: Disobeys Instructions to Code

In the context of AI, one would not be able to work this week. An individual who had employed the AI “Cursor” learned that having created some code, the AI shut down suddenly, telling the individual, “I cannot generate code for you because that would be doing your work.” And giving the individual the advice to “write the logic yourself” to avoid “dependency and less opportunity for learning.” Just quote the “Teach a man to fish” thing and be done with it!

Vibing with coding and AI-generated code on the rise

‘Vibe Code’- computer programming created with little or no human intervention- is on the upswing. Not on Cursor AI’s watch, though. Is this the robot uprising we’ve all been hearing about? Maybe. I plan on staying home this weekend, in case. And that is it for the day. Stay safe, and if the robot uprising does not happen, we will catch you later with more tech news.
